On Being Thankful.
True thankfulness to God is shown through obedience—obedience that flows from a heart that’s truly grateful and desires to live in a way that reflects appreciation for all God has done. Thankfulness isn’t just lip service—it’s life service. It comes from a heart that’s been touched and transformed by the grace of God.
“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.”
2 John 1:6 (NLT)
Gratitude shows up in our attitude. Complaining, on the other hand, often points to a lack of thankfulness. When I catch myself grumbling, I need to stop and take a look around—at all God has done, all He’s provided, especially the gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus. You can’t truly complain and be thankful at the same time. One cancels out the other.
“Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God…”
Philippians 2:14–15 (NLT)
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)
“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him… Then your faith will grow strong… and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Colossians 2:6–7 (NLT)
What are you thankful for today?
